Did you know that purple is one of Susan Littin’s favorite colors? In Susan’s opinion, purple - especially when paired with orange - represents energy and mystery.
You can just imagine how delighted Susan was when Pantone announced that its Color of the Year for 2018 would be Ultra Violet, a dreamy, deep purple that captures the enigmatic beauty of outer space. While 2017’s color Greenery captured the beauty of the earth, Ultra Violet channels the night sky.
In addition to being a beloved hue of legends like Prince and Frank Lloyd Wright, Ultra Violet is also the color of February’s birthstone amethyst, which is valued by crystal experts for its calming and grounding properties. According to the website Crystal Cure, amethyst can protect the wearer from both literal and figurative poison, inspire favorable dreams, and guard against fearful feelings.
According to Pantone’s official announcement, Ultra Violet “suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.”
Are you ready to reinvent your style in 2018? Are you ready to push your expression to its outer limits? Ultra Violet will empower you to take the steps you need to be a bolder, brighter version of you.
In this blog post, we share five pieces of SUMARIS jewelry that captures the beauty of Ultra Violet. Though they may not match the Pantone shade exactly, they still all harness the beauty and depth of purple.
The amethyst beads on our PLUMERIA necklace capture the magic of Ultra Violet almost exactly. This necklace also demonstrates how beautifully purple pairs with orange or amber. The highlight of this 20.5” stunner is a vintage West German rhinestone brooch, which is accented with vintage Lucite and Czech crystal.
Our CONFETTI necklace demonstrates the range and subtlety of purple. For example, the pearlescent beads show hints of purple in the right light. Two stylized purple hearts dangle from three strands of vintage Lucite, ametrine, and crystal. Did you know ametrine is a natural and unique combination of the crystals amethyst and citrine?
The highlight of our RANA necklace is a vintage Romi brooch shaped like an adorable frog. Crystal and acrylic beads with an Aurora Borealis (AB) metallic finish give the necklace a prismatic purple effect. RANA is proof that purple can complement so many others colors - blues, greens, blacks, and golds. Purple can be playful too.
The purples in our CZARINA necklace are not as deep and dark as Ultra Violet, but they still make a major impact. In this regal necklace, a vintage Bijoux brooch is the centerpiece. The brooch has a cushion-cut purple stone - just try taking your eyes off of it! Lucite, faux pearls, and Czech crystal complete this designer piece.
Let Ultra Violet enhance your thinking by wearing it close to your mind. Our SQUARED earrings allow you to do just that. These dazzling danglers feature a few different shades of purple, including that calming amethyst. In addition, SQUARED has vintage findings and Swarovski crystal. Turn heads every time you turn your head!
Is purple one of your favorite colors? How will you be celebrating the color of the year? We’d love to hear about your ideas.
