It’s that time of year again when you should pretend to like eggnog and make small talk with people you hardly know. Small annoyances aside, holiday parties can be charming, especially if you dress the part. Is your calendar filled with festive soirees? And do you know what you’ll be wearing? If not, we have some suggestions and, as always, SUMARIS is the main attraction.
Metallics
Harper’s Bazaar says, “Metallics act as the ultimate neutral on the holiday party circuit.” Lucky for you, we have metallics!
Try our CELESTIAL necklace, which features an exquisite unsigned vintage brooch and contemporary acrylic beads. The beads are flecked with gold-toned polka dots, and the crystals dripping down from the brooch look like beautiful icicles.
Or consider the statement-making SEA CREATURE necklace, which would look stunning layered on top of a neutral-colored scoop-necked sweater. This necklace features a vintage Park Lane brooch, mother-of-pearl beads, sterling beads, natural quartz, and Swarovski crystal.
Statement Earrings
Diane Kruger’s stylist Micaela Erlanger has some advice for women dressing for holiday parties. On one hand, she says it’s important to avoid over-accessorizing. But she also advises trying a “heel and a statement earring to add a little glamour to any look.”
At SUMARIS, statement earrings are one of our specialties. You’ll literally have visions of sugar plums dancing in (on?) your head when you wear our PLUMS earrings, which are made of Czech rhinestone buttons, vintage glass, and rhinestones.
Bold Accessories with Understated Clothing
According to celebrity stylist Karla Welch, who works with clients like Lorde and Olivia Wilde, underdressing for a holiday party is more chic than getting fancy. If you’re feeling like a princess, you don’t necessarily have to wear a ball gown. Instead, “you could do a beautiful blouse or even—something I think we’ll see a lot this holiday season is a corset.” Beautiful statement jewelry works best with an understated outfit.
Ready for one of our boldest accessories? Try WAR/PEACE, which would look gorgeous paired with a festive red dress. A vintage M.S. Meyer, Inc. WWII pin is the highlight of this long, Y-style necklace. Other elements include dyed natural stone beads and vintage brass findings. We hope you’re prepared to start a lot of conversations!
High-Fashion Looks for Less
Sure, the combo of a turtleneck with slip dress and pumps sounds lovely as holiday party attire, but this inspiration article on My Domaine believes we all have $3,000 to spend on a Gucci shoulder bag embellished with crystals, pearls, and gold-tone bees.
Save the three grand to buy more holidays gifts for yourself and your loved ones and try accessories with other flying friends: like our PARADISE necklace, which is embellished with a pink peacock, or our FANTASY necklace with its multi-colored Czech rhinestone butterfly.
Feathers and Pinks
A recent blog post from Nordstrom reminds us that “colorful and fun accessories are completely work-party appropriate.” The retailer suggests flourishes like feather earrings and hot-pink boots.
May we suggest our TICKLE ME earrings, which feature vintage earring parts, feathers, Lucite, and Swarovski crystal? With their metallic gold finish and shoulder-grazing length, they’re fun and festive.
Or, you can enjoy our SO PINK necklace, which (in our opinion, at least) is better than a pair of hot-pink boots, because how often are you going to wear those? The centerpiece is a whimsical vintage brooch surrounded by glass, felted wool, acrylic and Swarovski crystal. You can wear SO PINK to your holiday party and New Year’s Eve and Valentine's Day dinner and spring weddings and...the list goes on and on.
Now that you know what you’re wearing, you just need to ask yourself one final question - how in the world are you going to avoid the mistletoe?
